Welcome to the world of natural beauty

Natural cosmetics, nature-related cosmetics, vegan, aluminium-free, PEGs? Is natural cosmetics the same as nature-related cosmetics? We have compiled the most frequently asked questions for you and tell you what constitutes genuine natural cosmetics and how you can recognise them.

What are natural cosmetics?

The term natural cosmetics has not yet been clearly legally defined and protected. In general, it refers to all cosmetic products made with natural raw materials, such as vegetable oils, animal or plant-based active ingredients and minerals. Although there is no uniform international definition, natural cosmetics manufacturers refrain from using certain ingredients such as silicones, parabens, polyethylene glycol (PEG), synthetic fragrances, paraffins and other petroleum products.

What is "nature-related cosmetics"?

When looking at the INCI list, it quickly becomes clear that the term "natural cosmetics" is not defined by law. This contributes to the fact that the industry is divided into "natural cosmetics" and " nature-related cosmetics". Under the definition " nature-related ", brands are gathered of which some of the ingredients are close to genuine natural cosmetics, but the other part can almost be counted as conventional cosmetics. In our online shop, you can be sure that all the items we stock are pure natural cosmetics.

What defines natural cosmetics?

Nature offers everything you need to care for and protect your skin. Today, modern natural cosmetics offer care products for the whole family and are in no way inferior to conventional cosmetics. Natural cosmetics serve to beautify and care for the human body in harmony with people, animals and nature. It supports and stimulates the skin's own functions and thus makes an important contribution to maintaining its health at any age. The beauty, besides the well-groomed and healthy skin, is that today natural cosmetics are affordable for every wallet. What's more, natural cosmetics are not only available in organic food shops or health food shops, but also in drugstores and online stores. Giving preference to genuine natural cosmetics means, in addition to responsible beauty care, also including environmental protection, animal welfare and the creation of humane working conditions in the purchase decision and thus making a valuable contribution to leaving the world a little better than we found it.

What means „certified natural cosmetics“?

Since the term "natural cosmetics" is not protected, it is worth taking a close look at the product's packaging. Today, certified natural cosmetics offer cosmetic products from head to toe and are marked with a corresponding seal. Products with the test mark "certified natural cosmetics" use natural raw materials such as vegetable oils, fats and waxes, herbal extracts and flower waters, or essential oils and aromas. If natural cosmetics contain only purely plant-based ingredients, they may also be labelled vegan. Certified natural cosmetics are subject to constant manufacturing and quality controls.

If a cosmetics manufacturer calls itself "natural cosmetics", this is not necessarily an attempt to mislead customers. Some smaller and young natural cosmetics producers and manufacturers do without certification for cost reasons, even though their products meet the requirements and guidelines.

How a product is being certified?

Organic seals, which define certain standards according to which production must take place, provide more security and transparency. The seals can be found on the packaging of natural cosmetic products, which should make it easier for consumers to make a purchase decision. Certification is not limited to the individual cosmetic product. The regulations for certified natural cosmetics are very high and cover the entire manufacturing process, from the purchase of raw materials to production and storage. The requirements of the respective seal are binding and regulate, among other things, which raw material quality may be used and which manufacturing processes, as well as chemical transformation processes, are permitted. Depending on the certification seal, the quality of the raw materials, their extraction and processing methods as well as the social and ecological commitment of the company are checked.
